Second Edition of KinoKino Festival Coming Up!
07.02.2017.
After last year’s successful debut, the international film festival for children KinoKino is nearing its second edition! At the Europa Cinema in Zagreb, kids and youngsters will again get a chance to reach for a different and unique movie going experience, and this year’s events will stretch to almost the entire week: from Tuesday, 21 February to Sunday, 26 February 2017.
Although KinoKino festival’s line-up is intended primarily for children, a series of recent international and Croatian fiction films will be equally pleasing to adult fans of childlike imagination. In the programme, feature films from all over the world will be competing for the festival awards, presented separately by a jury of children and a professional jury. This year the line-up includes an impressively powerful French film, with a story based on actual events from Vichy France, Fanny’s Journey by Lola Doillon, and a local co-production: the Dutch-Belgian-Croatian film The Day My Father Became a Bush by Nicole van Kilsdonk, starring several Croatian actors like Jan Kerekeš and Hrvojka Begović.
A screen version of the iconic children’s novel Emil and the Detectives by Erich Kästner, directed by Gerhard Lamprecht in 1931, will be part of a special line-up of classics.
The film was made only two years after Kästner published his globally popular adventure novel for children, and although two other adaptations were made, this earliest version is considered the best so far. Interestingly, the film was written by Billy Wilder, one of the great directors from the era of the classic Hollywood cinema, who worked in Germany before his career took off in America.
To educate our youngest audience from the earliest possible moment, this year’s edition of KinoKino Festival again organises a series of workshops and different special events, to acquaint the youngsters with film industry and all its bits and pieces. Film quiz, script writing based on a literary model, film criticism workshop – these are only some of the activities KinoKino is preparing to get the youngest cinephiles hooked on love for the seventh art for all times.
